In warfare when possible we should always give our troops at least a
5-7 to one edge over our enemies.
It is simply the most essential proponent to victory in warfare and
helps our men in the field the most, especially since the insurgency
does not have technology and they cannot counter it at all that way.
They have about 25,000 to 50,000 insurgents in the region basically.
Though realistically way more than half aren't mentally fit enough to
fight in any of the worlds top armies.
Better bonuses for Marines and Army soldiers would better things as
well to get fence-sitter patriots. And with the GI bill nowadays paying
rent also while you go to college, now thats realistic. I just wish they
were wize enough to help GI's like that when I went.
Seems NO ONE can make up their minds on this while our troops are under fire. And, if the US is waiting for a "legitimate" Afghan government to send more troops, forget it. That is never going to happen and after eight years should be a WELL-known fact.
Screw it. Bring our troops home and have them protect our borders, ports, incorporate the military into searching here for terrorists and helping to enforce illegal immigration. If the millions of illegal immigrants were removed from the country, I believe this would be a major step to start the healing of America in numerous aspects.
Everyone that Bashed Bush for National Guard Service

While we Still Have One
tick tick tick . . . over 3 months ago the military made their request for more troops . . and Barack sat on it and did nothing.
The press were leaked this little tidbit and ran with it in the news . . exposing Barack's negligence in dealing with it.
Barack requested more info on the regions of afghanistan before making any decisions
Barack's next came back that he was waiting for the elections.
Once it was determined there might be vote fraud he deferred making any judgments until it was worked out.
Now that the UN has officially stated that the election is complete and Karzai is the president . . Barack has to make a decision.
It was reported that he would make an announcement this week.
It's 10pm pst on Thursday and so far there has been no announcement.
He's running out of time . . tick tick tick
indecision and stalling are not presidential attributes
It's too bad he and his squad of Goons on "Capital" Hill (not capitol)
can't figure out how create a bill that will tax afghanistan . . Then he could make a decision.
I bet he blinks!
Bill
tick, tick, tick - Seven years under Cheney/bush and nothing happened. Obama has already increased troop strength by 40,000. Where are we supposed to come up with another 100,000? Oh yeah, 4th rotation.
Obama's making the right decision. Take it slow, unlike Johnson or Cheney/bush.
Obama to his Advisers Maybe we could Tax the Poppy Fields
in Afghanistan
Check that Out Hillary if So
I will send 100,000 troops tomorrow
If Obama wants to fight militarily, then he needs to send more troops. A lot more troops. Afghanistan is more tribal than Iraq. The more tribes- the more troops are needed. We also need fresh troops for rotations, so more volunteers and or the draft. This can really drag on. . . .
We quickly forgot that it was the US who bought, supplied and gave Afganistan to the Taliban in the first place.
The disaster that is Afganistan destroyed the only other SuperPower, the Soviet Union and Afganistan is on their border, not half the world away.
you mean the BUSH doctrin of the BUSH IRAQ SURGE ,which WORKED..is now being conciderd for Afghanistan...
does that mean that the OBAMA TALK AND RECONSILIDATION
didnt work?
oh my
whats the world coming too.
The best way to fight a war is... know your enemy. The best way to win a war is... to fight with an overwhelming force. The best way to secure long lasting peace is... capture the hearts and minds of the local population and build an effective system of government. None of these have been done in this Afghanistan and Pakistan theaters.
"Mullen said a credible Kabul government was crucial to the success of the military mission. 'If we don't get a level of legitimacy and governance, then all the troops in the world aren't going to make any difference,'he said." This is so true, and we already know the answer to this government. It's with no difference from the Diem govt of Vietnam, the Marcos govt of the Phillipines, the Shah regime of Iran. Corruptions and briberies are unsuppressible in developed countries such as Japan, South Korea, Italy, and even the U.S., how can one expect Afghanistan be free of such practices?
Iraq has oil and had an infrastructure and government before while Afaghanistan has no oil, no really established centralized government now or before and no large infrastructure. As long as Pakistan has problems so will Afghanistan and so the Iraq model is a poor one at best to apply to Afghanistan. Little pin pricks with drones here and there or killing forty or fifty at a time is not going to cut it-do the math there Admiral; at that rate we will be there for several hundred years. If you want an effective surge then it will need to be way more than 40,000 troops and will need to take it all the way into Pakistan and clean them out of there also.
Death has been very rare long time ago and it was shocking someone to die. Today nobody cares. If someone cares, they could have at least try to stop.
To Bad Admiral but you're all wet,,no pun intended....If you think Iraq and Afghanistan are the same tactically and strategically maybe you should stick to your knowledge and expertise...Boats,,,ships and lots of water....Vet and senior...

Fellow Yahoos,
The US Admiral is wrong! Capt. Matthew Hoh (USMC) resigned stating, in part, that the problem in Afghanistan is our occupation, and intervention in a 35 year old civil war. The troop surge in Iraq will not work as a, "cookie cutter," in Afghanistan. Log onto Rachel Maddow at MSNBC for the interview.
I am offering proof, from one of our troops on the ground in Afghanistan. Anyone that sees it differently is not willing to reason with facts. We are being mislead, and if some of you want to believe hype, go ahead, after you, be my guest! You are denying yourselves a valuable opportunity to know the difference.
It be it,
Ronin Kannushi.
A little caution here. Afghanistan is not Iraq. Following the Iraq plan is fighting the last war. This is a different war.
Would our military one day understand that Obama is not interested in winning "any" of our wars, but to finish up indoctrinating our citizens, and destroying the economy so that whatever he builds is due to him and his gang....?. This is the official script of the Dictators of the Left and our military must know it if they have studied the Soviets, Castro and now Hugo Chavez....they must watch their own too because somewhere, in their ranks, there is one, or two that are ambitious enough to turn against their own people and join this band of Communists. We the People must be on the look out too and VERY VIGILANT. I lived under the Soviets and know what I am talking about......
None of my family will be leaving this country for any war on foreign soil.
(pretty easy to avoid considering you just tell the military sucking c#ck is great and your shunned right off with out having to tote their label of dishonorable discharge)
Let the politicians up in congress enlist their own kids to protect their own interests.
I'm way smarter then letting the government make my decisions.
F-your political games ....If the war comes here....maybe we will have some weapons and be able to fight back......But I'm going to die here on this land either way!
give me a fuchin break!!! what surge?? as soon as we pulled out alkieda moved in. and they werent there with sadaam. i got your fuchin surge. and what are we goin to surge with? we are a bankrupt nation with a stressed out military.surge your @ss.
Let them fight their own civil war. I am sick of them and simply do not care what happens to them. They don't have the intelect to be any thing more than they are and we cannot teach them that!
Ah but if you remember Obama was publicly against the Surge that worked in Iraq. That makes it tough for him now. Sadly, he does not seem to be someone who learns from the past.
Afghan Failure Is Unacceptable
The Taliban is an international threat and must not be allowed to win in Afghanistan. Forget about US prestige at losing to the Taliban, the threat of the Afghanistan again serving as a platform for terrorist training & or the Opium trade funding of terrorism worldwide. Consider for a moment their recent push toward the Pakistan Capital right next door to Afghanistan and the fact that Pakistan has an estimated 20-50 nuclear weapons.
The risk a Taliban win in Afghanistan poses from a near term risk of their taking over Nuclear Armed Pakistan is unthinkable. President Obama, NATO, Russia, China and the rest of the world must join the fight and fight to win in Afghanistan or risk a nightmare scenario of a nuclear armed Taliban.
